Since the beginning of the BIFL Movement, some items have truly stood the test of time and proven themselves over and over again. We've compiled a collection of these all-time favorite Buy It For Life items.
1. Le Creuset Cookware
When it comes to BIFL cookware, Le Creuset is the first brand that pops up in many people's heads. Their recognizable Dutch ovens are of remarkable quality and they are often handed down from generation to generation.
If you like cooking and are looking for a quality pot, don't hesitate to buy one. You will not be disappointed.
2. Zojirushi Rice Cooker
As a rice lover myself, a Zojirushi rice cooker is a must have for my kitchen. They come with a hefty price tag, but they are undoubtedly the best in their class.
The fact that they they can easily last well over 30 years, they provide replacement parts if something does fail, and they cook your rice literraly perfectly all the time results in a well-deserved place in this list.
3. Herman Miller Chair
Yes, they are expensive. But Herman Miller chairs are simply the best out there and your future self will thank you for investing this money in your body.
Basically everyone agrees that they make the best office chairs in terms of build quality, ergonomics and durability. Because they last forever, a good place to start looking for one is on the used market where you might very well find some great deals.
4. Patagonia Jackets
With their extensive focus on sustainability, Patagonia is a great option for BIFL jackets. They focus on making quality goods, and succeed in doing so. If they unfortunately do happen to fail, they will happily repair your jacket.
Lots of jacket brands have been called BIFL over the years, but lots have become fast fashion brands with a profit first mindset. Patagonia has always held strong when it comes to quality and ethics. That's why in my opinion, they deserve to be on this list when it comes to jackets.
5. Nick's Boots
Nick's Boots has created handmade boots for over 60 years. They are known for being super comfortable, lasting a long time and being 'reasonably priced' (although you should take that last part with a grain of salt).
If you're willing to invest in a good pair of shoes that last, they are one of the top recommended boots by the BIFL community. With good reviews all over the internet, these US made quality boots definitely deserve a spot in this list.
6. Darn Tough Socks
This one is a bit more controversial, but we still believe Darn Tough should have its place in this list. Some people report you should just buy cheaper socks, as you can buy 5 pairs instead of one pair of these overpriced socks. However, we believe otherwise and these socks have proven to be of great quality.
From a sustainability perspective, it's always a good idea to go for the longer lasting option. Also, if your socks do fail, they will be replaced for free. That's why we think these socks are worth it.
7. Leatherman Tool
Leatherman is the brand when it comes to a BIFL multitool. These tools have stood the test of time for most people to be a thrustworthy, small, handy tool you can bring with you everywhere.
The only downside is that they are one of those things you might lose them if you are somewhat similar to me. Still, their 25 year warranty proves their commitment to creating a durable and long-lasting product. This guarantees them a spot in this list.
8. Osprey Backpacks
If you like hiking, a good backpack is a must have. Osprey is our brand of choice when it comes to a well-built, ergonomic and durable backpack.
They are unmatched in terms of build quality, repair and lifetime warranty, and all-round great backpacks. Deuter also receives an honorable mention in this category.
9. Nalgene Water Bottle
With their recognizable wide-mouth water bottle design, Nalgene sells amazing water bottles for an even more amazing price. They focus on making a highly durable and sustainable water bottle and provide a lifetime guarantee with focus on repair.
One downside is that they focus on plastic water bottles, which although they use premium plastic is still plastic. That being said, they still earned their spot in this list as the bottles are about as indestructible as a plastic water bottle can be.
10. Miele Vacuum
If you think people would not be passionate about their vacuum cleaners, you could not be more wrong. People all over the internet love their Miele. Lots of people report a lifetime of well over 20 years.
Even though they are not the cheapest, you will only need to bite the bullet once to enjoy a lifetime worth of cleaning. On top of their vacuum cleaners, they get special credit for their washing machines as well.
