Nalgene water bottles are known for being a durable and sustainable water bottle. They are very sturdy and unlikely to break unless truly abused. One redditor even reports using it as a roller for sore muscles.

The most fragile part of their water bottles is the lanyard, but even this is will usually survive a long time. On top of this, all parts are replaceable and sold separately. Therefore, we rate Nalgene water bottles as BIFL. Be mindful that this does not decrease the likelihood of losing the bottle.

All water bottles are made in the US and come with a Lifetime Guarantee which is usually honored. Materials are sourced responsibly from Tennessee. The bottles are dishwasher safe and can hold boiling water.

One negative point is that most Nalgene bottles are made from plastic. However, the plastic used is Tritan, which is a BPA/BPS free, durable plastic. Their Sustain Bottle is made from Tritan Renew, which consists for 50% of plastic waste. Nalgene also has stainless steel water bottles that are also extremely durable, but they are on the heavy side and a bit more expensive.

The company is also active in charitable activities. Since 2019, the Nalgene Water Fund has been responsible for over $400,000 in donations to local initiatives. Nalgene also sometimes sells limited edition Water Fund bottles. Each sale of such bottle results in a $5 charity donation.

TL;DR

Great option for a plastic BIFL water bottle. Each bottle comes with a Lifetime Guarantee to back this up.
