Zwilling J.A. Henckels was born in 1731 as a knife brand. Today, nearly 300 years later, Zwilling still produces knives and has expanded to other culinary equipment as well. Knives are still their top selling product, but they are also known for other brands like Demeyere pots and pans and Staub cast iron cookware.
We find that Zwilling kitchen equipment is generally very durable when taken care of. This quality usually does not come cheap as they are a premium brand with premium pricing. In return for this price, you do however get a good warranty covering most defects for most products, which will be honored. The downside of the warranty is that not all products come with the same warranty, so it is sometimes unclear which warranty applies to your product. Also, Zwilling unfortunately does not offer repairs, only replacements.
The main materials used for their products are cast iron, aluminum and 18-10 stainless steel (18% chrome, 10% nickle). These materials are known to be very durable and corrosion resistant. The use of these materials in combination with quality craftsmanship, mostly manufactured in Germany and other European countries results in very durable products. Be aware however that some of their products are manufactured in China, but they are still high quality.
Zwilling Care supports humanitary projects for children in growing up in poor conditions such as proper education and meal donations. In terms of sustainability and climate change, they are launching initiatives which is good. However, the projects are not extremely ambitiuous in any way.
