Victorinox is a Swiss based company which is mostly known for their knives. Although they also make watches and travel gear, this review focusses on the knives. They strive to create durable, functional and qualitative craftmanship and overall they succeed in this goal.

Most knives are made from a highly qualitative Martensitic stainless steel, sourced in Europe. As a matter of fact, the 'inox' in Victorinox comes from 'inoxidable'. Any steel waste is recyled and turned back into steel. Other than this they also use Damast steel and Alox for some select products. The handles from their kitchen knives are made from European-sourced wood.

To ensure top-notch quality, all knives are manufactured in Switzerland. To back this up, their knives come with a lifetime warranty for manufacturing defects. Most other products come with a two year warranty. In general they honor this warranty and will try to repair your knife rather than replace it.

As far as sustainability goes, they claim to reduce environmental impact by using recycled materials, minimize packaging, optimize transportation and build long-lasting, repairable products. This is not backed up by any numbers or goals so the extent is probably relatively small.

TL;DR

Quality craftsmanship for a reasonable price. Pocket knives are BIFL, kitchen knives are very good.

Best pocket knives

Mar 15, 2024

They simply make the best pocket knives. I've only had their pocket knife fail me once, when I lost it in airport security.
